Job Description:

Summary

The Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL) in the College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking qualified candidates for a Diagnostic Associate I in Molecular.

The ISU VDL is a full-service veterinary diagnostic laboratory engaged in missions of service, teaching and research on a daily basis. The laboratory processes 125,000+ submissions from veterinarians and researchers annually.

The Diagnostic Associate I will conduct Diagnostic Testing and Analysis, Quality Assurance, Research/Development and the processing and transport of samples.

Work Hours: 9:00AM - 6:30PM

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship.

Example of Duties

  • Perform precise laboratory techniques and molecular assays including DNA/RNA extraction, real-time PCR and quantitative PCR.

  • Perform surveillance and monitoring diagnostic assays as determined by the USDA or NAHLN program tests.

  • Perform sample log in and evaluate samples for quality and appropriateness of type for the test requested prior to acceptance using a high degree of accuracy on over 100 to 1000 samples daily.

  • Verify results of the tests including monitoring and verification of quality controls.

  • After initial training is able to analyze and release results independently

  • Troubleshoot unexpected or inconsistent test results and critically review data to identify any aberrant results.

  • Evaluate the quality control of tests conducted and analyze test results

  • Facilitate the quality assurance program of the laboratory in collaboration with other Diagnostic Associates.

  • Determine suitability of samples for testing.

  • Provide technical knowledge to surveillance testing and troubleshooting.

  • Assist in identification and organization of samples for research projects directed by faculty.

  • Transfer samples to appropriate tubes for testing.
