Drive and control farm equipment and implements to till soil and plant, irrigate, cultivate, and harvest grain crops. Adjust, inspect, repair, and service farm machinery. Set up and operate irrigation equipment. Operate tractors, tractor-drawn machinery, and self-propelled machinery to plow, harrow, and fertilize soil, or to plant, cultivate, spray, and harvest crops, including both manual driving and GPS-controlled systems. Repair and maintain farm vehicles, implements, and mechanical equipment. Apply pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers to crops. Clear and maintain irrigation ditches. Report to farm owners/managers as needed. Drive grain trucks and tractor-trailers, corn pickers, and soybean/rice harvesters, and use various hand tools as required for task. Manipulate controls to set, activate, and adjust mechanisms or machinery. Observe and listen to machinery operations to detect equipment malfunctions. Attach farm implements such as plows, discs, sprayers, or harvesters to tractors, using bolts and hand tools. Drive trucks to haul crops, supplies, tools, or farm workers. Adjust repair, and service farm machinery and notify supervisors when machinery malfunctions. Operate towed machines such as seed drills or manure spreaders to plant, fertilize, dust, and spray crops. Load hoppers, containers, or conveyors to feed machines with products using forklifts, transfer augers, suction gates, shovels, or pitchforks. Using handsprayers,\ spray fertilizers or pesticides to control insects, fungi, weed growth, and disease. Mix specified materials or chemicals and dump solutions, powders, or seeds into planter or sprayer machinery. Irrigate soil using portable pipes or ditch systems and maintain ditches, pipes, and pumps. Direct and monitor the activities of work crews engaged in planting, weeding, or harvesting activities. Load and unload crops or containers of materials, manually or using conveyors, hand trucks, forklifts, or transfer augers. There are few typical days and workers may be required to change duties often and engage in various general functions. Daily duties may vary depending on crop, weather, and field conditions. Workers may be asked, but are not required, to work on their Sabbath.
