What is it that we do at Colonial Pipeline Company?

Colonial Pipeline is the largest refined products pipeline in the United States, transporting more than 100 million gallons or 2.5 million barrels per day. Colonial transports various grades of gasoline, diesel fuel, home heating oil, jet fuel, and fuels for the U.S. military through a pipeline system. Colonial transports approximately 45 percent of all fuel consumed on the East Coast, providing refined products to more than 50 million Americans.

About the Manager, Data Engineering Position

The Manager, Data Engineering, requires a hands-on leadership approach to collaborate with the stakeholders to understand business requirements, Data SLAs, build and maintain scalable data solutions, including data models and metadata, and data quality standards. This position will maintain artifacts such information lifecycle, Cloud based cost analysis, effectiveness, and value driven data solutions. The Manager, Data Engineering will work with our business areas to build out the business glossary and data catalog, implement data management projects, and oversee the adoption of data governance and master data management efforts. This role will manage the compliance process of all digital tool rollout by steering the organization through the various monitoring steps. The Manger, Data Engineering will drive the quality and visibility of the data through the adoption and use of our data catalog and data marketplace. This position is key in the continued build of the engineering organization by helping to identify the right talent.

What You Get to Do:

  • Monitor the progress of individual projects toward defined compliance gates and address concerns regarding project status to the project leader.

  • Ensure that quality gates are properly satisfied and fulfilled in adherence to Colonials’ security standards.

  • Build out team processes and culture around ownership and accountability.

  • Manage competing priorities and multiple streams of work. Partner with Data Analyst, Data administrations and vendors that will act as partner team to conduct analysis, dashboards, data products and quality assessments of data solutions.

  • Define and manage standards, guidelines, and processes to ensure data quality, consistency, and integrity.

  • Ensure solutions comply with data privacy, legal, security, and regulatory requirements.

  • Data footprint at enterprise level is key in supporting multiple database streams at scale and manage the information life cycle across the organization, Data models, Data governance and Data management.

  • Be a technical reference, provide direction and help team to make critical technology decisions.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, or related field of study from an accredited college or university; will consider a combination of experience and/or education,

  • Ideally, 8+ years of data engineering experience.

  • Ability to stay calm, find solutions, and reach objective decisions in difficult situations.

  • Gathers information to solve problems can see root causes and address these as needed.

  • Ability to deal with change and ambiguity well; adjusts and alters behavior when change occurs so priorities are still met.

  • Skilled in cloud-based data platforms and data pipeline architecture (ideally GCP).

  • Skilled in ETL, and data pipelines, consuming data into our system from 3rd party data sources, IOTs and APIs.

  • Ability to establish metrics and measures to show data governance maturity.

  • Skilled in data technologies (Oracle, SQL, Big Query, Alteryx, Dataplex, DataStream Power-BI etc.)
