Colonial Pipeline is the largest refined products pipeline in the United States, transporting more than 100 million gallons or 2.5 million barrels per day. Colonial transports various grades of gasoline, diesel fuel, home heating oil, jet fuel, and fuels for the U.S. military through a pipeline system. Colonial transports approximately 45 percent of all fuel consumed on the East Coast, providing refined products to more than 50 million Americans.

About the Associate Engineer, Mechanical Reliability Position

The Associate Engineer will work within the discipline team to perform various engineering design and technical analysis activities that support Colonial’s asset management program. You will become familiar with CPC’s pipeline system operations, system equipment and the techniques and methodology for system technical analysis. This position provides mechanical engineering technical expertise, leadership, and engineering analysis to complete a wide variety of difficult engineering assignments, applying mechanical engineering techniques and analyses to improve facilities safety, reliability, & efficiency. The Mechanical Reliability Associate Engineer is proficient in the utilization of accepted engineering theories and practices, understands and analyzes complex mechanical issues including pump, valve actuator and various other system designs and operations.

What You Get to Do:

  • Work with field operating staff daily to provide technical expertise to assure the safe and reliable operation of pipeline facilities.

  • Manage programs that provide innovations and reliability improvements to Colonial’s assets.

  • Support analysis and resolution of complex operating problems. Ensure solutions are documented and incorporated across the company.

  • Interpret and apply the company’s procedures, industry codes and standards and government regulations.

  • Evaluate how procedures impact field personnel, employee safety, material management, and equipment reliability/performance.

  • Assist in the development of the annual O&M and capital budgets.

  • Participate in new facility design, building in reliability.

  • Advise and make recommendations for approved vendors, approved machine shops, inventory levels, surplus material disposition, bulk material purchases, utilizing the current EAM system where applicable.

  • Keep current with state-of-the-art equipment and innovations, recommend equipment testing, evaluation, and implementation when appropriate and present results in a convincing manner.

  • Maintain contacts with outside organizations that may provide resources or support problem resolution.

  • Monitor reliability data through the current EAM system, analyze data, identify trends, provide technical solutions and/or problem resolution and support field teams in resolving issues that impact reliability.

  • Monitoring Preventive Maintenance activities on Colonial’s pipeline system.

  • Monitoring vendor equipment testing at the factory prior to Colonial acceptance and shipment to the Field.

  • Monitoring vendor equipment performance at Field locations.

  • Inspecting equipment installations and/or construction work in the Field.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, or a related engineering fields from an accredited college or university; will consider a combination of experience and/or education.

  • Ideally, 1 years Oil/Gas or related industry experience preferably.

  • Also preferred 1 years of experience in at least one of the following categories: Rotating equipment design or repair experience, Valve design or repair experience, Actuator design or repair experience, Related Equipment Reliability experience.
