HNTB is seeking a highly motivated Design Professional II with at least 2 years of experience in architectural design and construction, with a focus on transportation architecture preferred. The ideal candidate will have experience working with and understanding how architectural building systems are built, with a focus on construction methods, building materials, and detailing, and experience in construction administration. They should have the ability to take responsibility for limited technical design aspects of projects, and to support project decisions more broadly. Candidates with experience in the design of public, high-traffic facilities are preferred.

In addition to these qualifications, the candidate should possess strong problem-solving skills, time management skills, attention to detail, excellent communication skills, collaboration skills, creativity, and flexibility. The successful candidate must also be able to learn quickly across varied design projects and project delivery types, and have experience in working with building codes and accessibility guidelines.

This opportunity entails being responsible for specific technical design aspects of an assigned project including investigation, evaluation and recommendation of design solutions. Assigned to handle specific technical design aspects of a project for which he/she is responsible including investigating, evaluating, and recommending the design solutions that best meet the client's needs. Performs assignments under direction with limited responsibility for design.

As a Design Professional II at HNTB, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of transportation-related projects, including related to rail stations and systems, highways, transit systems, potentially airports and other public and non-public facilities. You will be responsible for coordinating with the project architect and other team members to develop design concepts and solutions that meet the needs of our clients and stakeholders. You will also have the opportunity to collaborate with contractors, clients, and other professionals to ensure that quality projects are delivered on time and within budget. In addition, you will have the opportunity to gain experience in construction administration, including reviewing shop drawings, answering RFIs, and attending site visits.

In addition to the job description as defined below, you'll:

  • Participate in the design and documentation of transportation-related architectural projects, with a focus on longevity, construction feasibility and detailing

  • Assist project teams to develop design concepts and solutions, considering construction methods and materials specific to transportation projects and ensuring compliance with building codes, accessibility guidelines, agency and other requirements for various jurisdictions

  • Assist in coordination with other disciplines (structural, MEP, etc.) to ensure design integrity and compliance with codes and standards

  • Attend project meetings and coordinate with the project architect, other team members regularly, and with contractors and clients as needed

  • Assist in the development of construction documents, including drawings and specifications

  • Assist in construction administration as needed, including reviewing shop drawings, answering RFIs, and attending site visits

What You'll Do:

  • Provides professional architectural consulting in the planning, design and coordination of project assignments. May make recommendations on design alternatives.

  • Applies knowledge of architectural principles and practices in broad array of assignments. Support or makes decisions on architectural design problems and methods. Has technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing and coordinating architectural design assignments.

  • Responsible for specific technical design aspects of an assigned project, including investigation, evaluation and recommendation of design solutions that best meet the client's need.

  • Applies moderate architectural concepts and designs. Carries out assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and two years of relevant experience.

What You'll Bring

  • Revit skills

  • Experience in Rendering softwares, including Lumion

  • Experience in presentation and image development softwares, including Photoshop, Illustrator and others

  • AutoCAD skills

What We Prefer:

  • Demonstrated advancement in the AXP process and progress towards licensure is preferred.

  • Experience in MicroStation a plus.

  • Experience in Bluebeam Studio a plus.

  • Experience working virtually and with large teams a plus.

  • Experience with Autodesk cloud products and environments a plus.

  • Experience with code and regulatory platforms preferred.

  • Experience with public architecture, construction methods and sensible design preferred.
