System One System Administrator lll (Secret Clearance required) in Alexandria, Virginia

ALTA IT Services is seeking a System Administrator for a 6 month contract to hire role in Alexandria, VA. This role requires a Secret Clearance and working onsite 3 days a week. Rate for the 6 month contract is max 65-70/hr W2 and conversion salary is 140-150K.

  • Build/Administration/upgrade of VMware vSphere and vSAN, versions 6.7, 7 and 8 including:

  • Deployment of ESXi hosts

  • Patching and updating ESXi hosts

  • Patching and updating vCenter appliances

  • Monitor utilization, capacity growth and performance of VMs and physical servers across several sites.

  • Build/administration/repair of Dell PowerEdge gen 13,14, 16 servers

  • Monitor all servers for failed hardware

  • Acquire replacement parts via warranty and ship to post

  • Work with remote personal to replace parts as needed

  • Management of enterprise-wide Active Directory and Group Policy design and administration

  • Administration of Microsoft domain controllers including promotion, demotion, and deployment of read-only domain controllers.

  • Create and modify existing GPOs as needed to support applications and server deployments and upgrades

  • Troubleshoot group policy issues/conflicts

  • Windows Server 2012R2 upgrades to Windows Server 2019/2022

  • Build replacement systems in advance of migration

  • Coordinate with post and application teams to cutover to new systems with minimal downtime

  • Execute PowerShell scripts to complete migration tasks

  • Provide vision and direction in workstation computing and virtualization ensuring that the system architecture aligns with the clients’ goals.

  • Advise, recommend and test new technology solutions.

  • Lead system design activities or reviews system designs to ensure that applications solutions shall exhibit high levels of performance, security, scalability, maintainability, appropriate reusability and reliability upon deployment.

  • Monitor utilization, capacity growth and performance of physical servers across several sites.

  • Provide leadership regarding system design, architecture, and integration.

    QUALIFICATIONS

  • A degree in the field of computer science or a related discipline is preferred.

  • Technical certification a plus (e.g. COMP TIA A+ MCSA, MCSE, CCNA, SQL, VCP-DC or other Virtualization or related disciplines).

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience within a WAN/LAN environment.

  • Must exhibit ability to troubleshoot and repair enterprise server/workstation systems as well as Microsoft Windows domain environments to include active directory, systems backups, archiving and disaster recovery.

  • Demonstrate comprehensive understanding and administration of VMware vSphere, Dell PowerEdge servers, and Microsoft Active Directory/Group Policy as well as be knowledgeable of network fundamentals and security protocols of technical systems.

  • Experience with SAN, NAS, and Networking technologies. Preferably specific administration and support for Dell EMC VNX2 and Unity Flash platforms.

  • Experience creating, executing, and troubleshooting MS PowerShell Scripts including (but not limited to) working with the following modules and command line tools:

  • Dell racadm

  • Active Directory Power Shell Module

  • SQL Server Power Shell Module

  • VMware PowerCLI

  • Experience with the following applications is a plus:

  • Microsoft Defender for Endpoint

  • SCCM/MECM

  • Avamar Virtual Edition/Data Domain Virtual Edition

  • Expert in building and maintaining high-availability (>99%) enterprise class environments.

  • Knowledgeable of telecommunications protocols and router switch configurations.

  • Proficient in authoring system documentation, policies, processes, and procedures.

  • Possess excellent writing and oral communication skills

  • Must be able to work independently with little to no oversight.
