PLEXUS SCIENTIFIC CORPORATION Junior Environmental Geologist in Alexandria, Virginia

Job Description:

Plexus Scientific Corporation is seeking an Environmental Geologist with 2+ years of experience performing environmental investigations under CERCLA and/or RCRA who is looking to expand their career. You will work as part of a team supporting Plexus's federal contracts for environmental remediation services. You will be given increasing responsibility and authority as you demonstrate technical knowledge, initiative, and leadership. You will work both in the office and at remote sites where you will oversee the installation of soil borings and groundwater monitoring wells and collect soil, porewater, groundwater, surface water, sediment, and vapor samples. In the office you will help prepare for field investigation activities, prepare data tables, figures, and text for reports and plans, organize field data for easy access by the technical team lead, and provide input on the evaluation of data.

This position may be eligible for paid overtime effective 1/1/25.

Work Location:

The ideal candidate will be able to work anywhere in the continental United States when field work is required and report to the Alexandria Virgina office when in-office work is required. A remote work location may be approved. This position is in support of a specific project located in the Detroit Michigan planned to require on-site presence for approximately 3 months likely starting in October 2024.

What you'll need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology or related field with specific training in Geology.
  • 2+ Years of field experience related to the investigation and cleanup of contaminated sites under federal, state, or other cleanup programs such as CERCLA (sometimes referred to as Superfund), RCRA, and/or state UST programs. Experience must include logging soil borings, identifying soil types in accordance with the unified soil classification system (USCS), and overseeing and documenting the installation of groundwater monitoring wells.
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, field equipment used in support of field investigation of soil and groundwater contamination.
  • Desire to learn on and off the job to better your understanding of the environment and the environmental industry.
  • Successful candidate will demonstrate a history of increasing responsibility, initiative, motivation, and creative problem solving.
  • Ability to work successfully independently, as a member of a team, and as a leader.
  • Ability to lift/carry equipment needed to perform field investigations including coolers filled with samples and preservative ice that may occasionally weigh in excess of 50lbs.
  • Willingness to travel within the continental United States (note; travel expenses are company paid or reimbursed in accordance with federal travel regulations).
  • Ability to pass and maintain a detailed background check and be granted access to US federal facilities.
  • Desire to obtain registration as a Professional Geologist and have taken steps towards that goal.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Solid decision-making, planning and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Ability to organize and manage a variety of work and meet internal and external deadlines.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, Project).
  • Experience with other industry-related software (e.g., GIS, CAD, Surfer, LogPlot, MAROS, MODFLOW, etc.) is a plus.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification with current 8-hour refresher required.
