Annual Salary Range: $31,767.06 - $38,120.47 Grade: 18 (Employee: 7% on your current salary, whichever is greater; or 10.5% on your current salary, whichever is greater, if position is 3 grades or higher than current position) Appointment to a position in the classified service shall be at the minimum of the corresponding pay range unless otherwise approved.
The examination is announced to establish an employment list to fill 1 vacancy in the Water Department and future vacancies as they occur to perform technical tasks to maintain and repair meters and regulators for the City. Acts as the coordinator of the related materials, parts, supplies and equipment inventory. Services, repairs, installs, removes, and/or replaces meters and associated equipment, and performs related manual work, which may include locating and uncovering covered meters, raising meter boxes to ground level, cleaning out meter boxes, pumping water from meter boxes, replacing/repairing water meters, replacing cutoffs under pressure from the main line, locating/repairing utility leaks, replacing meter boxes and lids, replacing meter couplings and washers, rebuilding small residential meters and large commercial meters, digging dirt/debris from meter boxes, or shoveling materials. Picks up malfunctioning and broken meters and regulators in the field; installs new and repaired meters. Provides assistance in locating utility leaks. Positions in the Gas Department are subject to 24-hour call.
Minimum Applicant Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by two (2) years of experience in basic mechanical maintenance and repair of meters and related equipment with some experience in purchasing and inventory management; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Must possess a valid drivers license.
Will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana drivers license at time of appointment and maintain throughout employment for this classification.
Must possess and maintain any state or federal certifications required in the field of assignment.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Water Department prefers a valid Water Distribution Class II Certification.
Work Schedule:
M-F, 7 AM - 3:30 PM; May be required to work weekends and holidays.

This examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, a performance test or any combination thereof deemed necessary to adequately screen and rank applicants. Examination notices will be sent out via email with a testing date, time, and location.
