City Of Alexandria Carpenter, Maintenance Public Buildings in Alexandria, Louisiana
Annual Salary Range: $37,535.00 - $45,037.67 Grade: 22 (Employee: 7% on your current salary, whichever is greater; or 10.5% on your current salary, whichever is greater, if position is 3 grades or higher than current position) Appointment to a position in the classified service shall be at the minimum of the corresponding pay range unless otherwise approved.
Examination is announced to establish an employment list to fill vacancies in the Maintenance of Public Buildings department and future vacancies as they occur to perform skilled carpentry work at the journeyman level to construct, maintain and repair structures, facilities, articles of wood and other building materials for the City of Alexandria.
Performs general carpentry work in the construction, alteration, repair and maintenance of buildings, floors, roofs, stairways, partitions, doors, closures, hardware, suspended ceilings, windows, screens, scaffolds, wood fixtures, cabinets, trim, fences, furniture, forms, frames, shelves and related items; determines the appropriate method to complete work. Participates in related building tasks; hangs drywall, paneling, doors, and other building materials. Participates in moving furniture or relocation of offices in various departments. May assist with other trades as necessary and assigned; performs metal work, light fabrication and welding; assists with minor electrical and plumbing activities. Operates a city vehicle in performance of duties and heavy equipment to include pick-up truck, boom lifts, backhoes, forklifts and bucket trucks.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED, with vocational or technical school training in carpentry.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in journeyman-level carpentry in an industrial, residential, or commercial setting; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
- Must possess a valid drivers license.
- Will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana drivers license at time of appointment and maintain throughout employment.
- Will be required to obtain a class D chauffeurs license within one month of employment.
Work Hours:
Mon - Fri 7:00a.m. - 3:30pm (Overtime may be required)

This examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, a performance test or any combination thereof deemed necessary to adequately screen and rank applicants. Examination notices will be sent out via email with a testing date, time, and location.
