Primary Purpose of the Job:

Arconic has set very challenging environment, health, and safety (EHS) related sustainable development goals. In this regard, the main role of the Environmental Science & Sustainable Technology (ESST) project leader is to serve as the principal technical and project management lead for strategic environmental and sustainability research and development (R&D) related projects as well as full scale process improvement and end of pipe treatment projects at plant locations related air, water and solid waste management. To achieve these goals in an innovative and cost-efficient manner that will add to Arconic's bottom line, this position is needed to: (1) establish and maintain coordination and collaboration among EHS, R&D, business unit (BU) production and Remediation personnel, (2) provide focus and direction so the goals are met via innovative technologies/approaches, material recycle/reuse, and production process/product changes, rather than the more conventional end-of-pipe treatment approaches, (3) provide guidance to ESST personnel and Arconic Technical Center (ATC) technologists, (4) develop, identify and transfer environmental and sustainability technologies and approaches across Arconic worldwide, and (5) bench-mark, collaborate, and engage entities outside of Arconic for the purpose of keeping abreast of the latest environmental and sustainability technologies and approaches that can benefit Arconic.

Major Activities / Key Challenges:

  • Lead and coordinate activities related to projects within own functional specialized area and provide consultation on projects within broader areas by ensuring all work being conducted is done safely and with a high degree of quality and timeliness

  • Identifies and develops creative and innovative solutions to problems of a conceptual nature, and /or develops new technology through exploration and synthesis of ideas, concepts, and existing technology

  • Technical management of large (multi-million dollar) capital process and environmental projects at BU locations including overseeing start-up/commissioning efforts (immediate opportunities include: Canton scrubber implementation, Lafayette iNEWT installation, Davenport/Rochester storm water management, etc..)

  • Initiates and leads substantial projects both technically and commercially; identifies needs and recommends project approaches

  • Collaborates on projects, reaching beyond assigned responsibilities, to assist others as necessary to achieve goals, encourages collaborative relationships within project team or work group, including BU partners

  • Provide supervision of junior engineers and act as a mentor within the technology area; consistently providing functional guidance to technicians and less experienced engineers.

Essential Knowledge & Skills / Education:

  • Strong communication skills through presentations, technical reports, and team building

  • Broad technical knowledge and experience managing small sub-teams

  • Experience with and ability to supervise, motivate and work with construction teams

  • Is recognized as an experienced process/environmental/chemical engineer in designing process treatment trains for water, air-borne pollutants, including mass balance, water re-use applications, and solid waste re-use/management

  • Communicates progress/results through written detailed technical reports, patents, presentations and publications.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Masters’ Degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Industrial Engineering from an accredited institution

  • Minimum 5 years of process, chemical or environmental science or engineering experience

  • Minimum 1 year Project Management experience

  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
