Job Description Assistant Coach
Job Title: Assistant Coach Reports To: Head Coach, Activities Director, and Secondary Principal Supervises: N/A Summary: The Alburnett Community School District employs the Assistant Coach to assist the Head Coach in providing leadership, supervision, and organization of a specific athletic activity, and to carry out the objectives of the total athletic program including helping each participant achieve a high level of skill, an appreciation for the values of discipline, and an increased level of self-esteem.
Qualifications: Possess a coaching endorsement or coaching authorization certification Have experience as a player or coach of the sport Have the ability to be a role model for student athletes Essential Functions: Be knowledgeable of rules, regulations and coaching techniques of the sport coached and of local rules and regulations regarding eligibility, good conduct, board policies, etc. regarding student athletes. Provide for the proper care and set up of facilities prior to contests and practice. Provide for the proper care of equipment, and uniforms and the storage of equipment and uniforms including notifying the Activities Director of the need for repair and/or replacement.
Travel to and from away athletic events with the team and be the last out of the visitor's locker room to ensure that no equipment is left behind and that no damage has occurred. Motivate athletes with praise and affirmation; avoid sarcasm, embarrassment and belittling; exercise self-control during practices and games and reflect positively upon the team, school, and yourself. Assist the Head Coach with regard to physicals and other safety and health issues, emergency procedures, etc. Assist the Head Coach regarding communication with students, parents, media, etc., Assist the Head Coach with the scheduling of practices and the maintenance of records for various purposes. Be responsible for non-varsity teams as assigned by the Head Coach.
Be supportive of the Head Coach and the Head Coach's philosophy when communicating with student athletes, parents, and the community. Performs other duties as may be assigned.
