Position Overview:

The function of the Clinician, Residential is to coordinate and implement treatment for each child in residential care as planned by the treatment team. The Residential Clinician provides clinical treatment to the child and their family; acts as a liaison between child, family, school, the treatment team including clinical consultants and residential child care staff, and the referring agency; and documents treatment progress as required by SCCC and by its regulating agencies.

Duties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • As a member of the treatment team, provides clinical treatment as planned by the team including, but not limited to, family therapy, individual psychotherapy, and group therapy.

  • Acts as liaison with the family; clinically supervises visits when clinical intervention is necessary, represents and articulates family issues to the other team members (including other clinical staff, child care staff, and teachers), secures signed HIPAA releases and consents from the family or agency of legal to facilitate coordination of care.

  • Maintains regular contact with the Day Treatment School Social Worker to share information about their clients. When a client is enrolled in a school other than SCCC Day treatment, social worker will maintain sufficient contact with that school to ensure the child is benefiting from optimum educational placement. Clinician will also participate in CSE meetings and maintain contact with SCCC CSE chairperson.

  • Acts as liaison with child care staff and case management staff through participation on the treatment team, and at treatment reviews, service plan reviews, medication reviews, and staff meetings.

  • Documents treatment processes as required by SCCC and by its regulating agencies including:

  • Completion of thorough and up-to-date progress notes in both the AWARDS and NYS Connections systems

  • Preparation of clinical/diagnostic assessments, court reports, correspondence with other agencies, psychosocial summaries;

  • Completion of quarterly Treatment Reviews and facilitation of treatment meetings at houses;

  • Preparation or collection of all materials necessary to bring records into compliance with internal and external agency regulations, e.g., school information, requests for clinical involvement, etc.

  • Summary reports requested by referring and other collaborative agencies.

  • In conjunction with the House Management Team (Child Care Supervisor, Case Manager and Nurse), develops and maintains a therapeutic environment at the site.

  • As a member of the clinical staff, provides 24-hour on-call crisis services (this includes but is not limited to assessment and counseling) on a rotational basis.

  • Attends all court hearings pertaining to the placement, permanency, and treatment of the child and family.

  • Meets weekly with the Supervisor of 29i Clinical Services to review progress toward goals, and design and implement specific treatment strategy and goals for children and families.

  • As the primary clinician for child/ family, flexes hours at least two days a week to include evening hours outside of the traditional work day.

  • Functions as a member of the Direct Care Planning Team, meeting with HMT members, unit child care supervisors, consultants, nurses and case managers to evaluate and plan for the therapeutic milieu.

  • Additional position-related duties and responsibilities assigned by the Supervisor 29i Clinical Services.

Position Specifications:

  • Master’s degree in Social Work or Mental Health Counseling from an accredited university or a Master’s degree in a related field, is required.

  • Clinical Licensure (LMSW, LMHC, etc.) is required. A Limited Permit will be considered.

  • Two years’ experience preferred and a professional record of integrity and strong advocacy for children.

  • Clean and Valid New York State Driver’s License; be actively licensed for at least one (1) year and have reliable transportation.

  • Proficiency in various computer applications: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Business Workspace Suite (Gmail, Google Docs, Meet, Sheets, etc.); and secure Internet practices.

  • Must possess excellent communication skills.

  • Ability to pass required pre-employment background checks, to include fingerprinting, is required.
