Job Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skill tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services. This position may be filled from a mandatory reemployment list if one is in effect at the time of appointment. Candidates may be expected to be qualified to use negative pressure respirators. Valid New York State Driver's license required.

OPERATING NEEDS:

Ability to perform journey-level work in one trade, and skilled and semiskilled level work in a combination of other trades. Able to alternate shifts as required to meet campus operational needs. Experience in snow removal and snowplow operations. Ability to perform diagnostic scans of onboard computers for campus equipment; ability to use tools associated with diagnostic, testing and repairs of utility vehicles equipped with computer circuit boards, fuel injectors and advanced hydraulics; ability to troubleshoot electrical systems, fuel injection systems, and hydraulics; ability to perform mechanical, electrical and hydraulic repairs for a variety of equipment including utility vehicles, loaders, trucks, snowplows, salters, electric cars, shop equipment, generators, pumps, and other small engine items. Repair blown hydraulic hoses, defective pumps, valves, leaking rams, and hydraulic tanks. Ability to use pressure gauges both mechanical and electronic to diagnose solenoids and line pressure.

Ability to review blueprints and diagrams for projects. Ability to plan work and organize assistants and helpers with materials and equipment for specific projects, perform assigned tasks without onsite supervision; basic mathematical skills and blue print and schematic literacy required; ability to perform physical tasks including lifting 100 pounds, carrying ladders and materials; ability to work in areas of heat and cold(indoors and outdoors), working from ladders, scaffolds and aerial lifts, work at heights 35'+ and in confined spaces and stand and walk for prolonged periods of time; working knowledge of relevant building and safety codes(OSHA and ADA): plan and execute assignments with considerable independence, participate in training; work OT if needed and be on emergency call in list for after hour emergencies and campus events; ability to work with a computerized maintenance management system, order parts from shop stores and identify sources for other materials and parts; ability to wear a negative pressure respirator and pass a fit test; attend training on new equipment and building systems, ability to determine repairs and replacement of equipment, plan work, organize apprentices and helpers with materials and equipment for projects and maintain stocked inventory of materials required; ability to utilize hand-held devices, testing instruments, hand tools, small and large power tools, cutting tools, as well as large operating equipment and electrical and mechanical equipment and devices.

Must possess a 7A Commercial Pesticide Applicator License (Structural & Rodent Control pesticide license. Must possess a 3A ornamentals, Shade Tree & Turf license. Both licenses must be valid at the time of job offer and as a condition of continued employment. Must safely and efficiently use all equipment and materials necessary for an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program. Maintenance and production of ornamental and shade trees, shrubs, flowers, and turf. Responsible for the control of rodents, roaches, ants, fleas, ticks, stinging and biting insects within or associated with structure. Provide a timely response and follow an appropriate action.
