University at Albany Project Associate Technical Assistance Partner in Albany, New York

The Technical Assistance Partnership (TAP) for Behavior at the School of Education, University at Albany, provides support to school districts and schools in their efforts to improve outcomes for all students, especially those with disabilities, throughout New York State. The partnership provides professional development and technical assistance to all members of the Office of Special Education (OSE) Educational Partnership, which includes content specialists in 16 Regional Partnership Centers; 14 Early Childhood and School-age Family and Community Engagement Centers.

Essential Functions:

  • Facilitate and support the implementation, sustainability, and expansion of Multi-tiered System of Support for Behavior (MTSS-B) at the school and district level through coordination with regional teams statewide.

  • Develop, provide, and/or facilitate evidenced-based train-the-trainer professional development on MTSS-B, Social-Emotional and Behavioral Health, and New York State Laws and Regulations Related to Special Education and Students with Disabilities.

  • Coach implementation support teams on school and district-wide data collection systems to improve fidelity at the universal, secondary, and tertiary levels, in collaboration with regional teams in New York City.

  • Coach Specialists around supporting school- and district-teams to collect, analyze, and monitor school and district databases around systems and behavioral data, including office discipline referrals and suspensions (e.g., data from SWIS, PBIS Assessments), in collaboration with regional teams.

  • Develop measurable goals related to state performance plan indicator data in collaboration with regional specialists.

  • Collaborate with colleagues developing parallel models for academic supports.

  • Participate in regional, statewide, and national behavioral leadership conferences and meetings.

  • Other reasonable duties as assigned

    Job Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of research related to MTSS-B at all three tiers: universal, secondary, and tertiary.

  • Strong organizational skills, including planning, implementation, and evaluation.

  • Ability to collaborate with various groups and facilitate consensus on projects.

  • Must be able to regularly commute to the New York City area

  • Demonstrated leadership in managing projects or initiatives.

    Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Education, Special Education, School Psychology, or a related field.

  • 5 years experience working in schools.

  • 5 years experience and proficiency in developing and delivering professional development on the New York State Laws and Regulations Related to Special Education and Students with Disabilities.

  • 5 years experience implementing multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) that integrate behavioral and academic interventions.

  • Experience developing and delivering professional development on special education policies and regulations.

  • Experience developing and writing high-quality curriculum, coaching, and training(s).

  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community

  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to their role

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five or more years of experience working in schools in New York City.

  • Experience working with the NYC Department of Education and the NYS Office of Special Education.

    Additional Information:

Professional Rank and Salary Range: Staff Associate (SL$4); $80,000-95,000.

The Technical Assistant Partnership (TAPS) for Behavior is funded by the New York State Office of Special Education, and as such, all appointments are contingent on the funding of the program, and accordingly, these positions will not be eligible for permanent appointment. Initial appointment will be as a one-year temporary appointment with extensions granted based on continuation of funding and/or program needs.
