National Grid Manager, Fleet Maintenance in Albany, New York

Job Purpose

To oversee and ensure the timely and effective maintenance of National Grid's fleet so that fit for purpose vehicles are available as and when required by National Grid operations.

Key Accountabilities

  • Direct the efforts and resources of the fleet maintenance team in order to ensure safety, reliability and security of National Grid's fleet consistent with company goals, objectives and policies in full compliance industry regulations.
  • Continually assure all fleet maintenance activities always protect company worker and public safety from risk or harm.
  • Analyze maintenance plans and other cost drivers against historical company performance and industry benchmarks, identifying how different scenarios may impact business and performance metrics in order to provide input for an optimal vehicle utilization plan.
  • Manage fleet maintenance schedules and plans in order to achieve high productivity, low costs and efficient work practices and to ensure compliance with National Grid policies and procedures.
  • Manage and lead fleet training in accordance with OEM requirements and assure efficiency in the procurement and inventory of equipment parts
  • Collaborate effectively with Fleet Engineering, Purchasing and Operations to assure fleet availability
  • Challenge existing ways of working and continuously seek ways to improve fleet conditions in order to drive greater efficiencies within the fleet maintenance group.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal colleagues and clients to anticipate and provide for fleet related business needs.
  • Develop fleet maintenance activities to achieve optimal fleet life and performance concurrent with company/department KPIs. Create and monitor local metrics to assure same.
  • Ensure compliance with all environmental, safety, corporate and governmental fleet related regulations.
  • Initiate sustainability actions to achieve carbon mitigation targets for fleet services. Implement EV activities in fleet maintenance congruent with strategic plan.
  • Keep abreast of industry changes, regulatory changes and environmental changes at the local, state, and federal level as it relates to vehicles and equipment repair and utilization.
  • Be an active participant and safety leader as part of storm response role, including management of storm fueling operations.

Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required

  • Effective communication skills with the ability to foster a collaborative team environment and high level of enthusiasm.
Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in mechanical engineering or related field or equivalent experience. Other professional qualification or Associate Degree in automotive technology, including specialized training in hydraulics, electronics, fiber optics, and computer science, diagnostics is desirable.
  • 5+ years of in-depth relevant experience within the transportation or heavy equipment industry.
  • Thorough understanding of key business drivers, as well as regulatory, environmental compliance and carbon mitigation drivers related to fleet services.
  • Demonstrated ability to strategically manage large union workforces. Ability to interpret, understand, optimize collective bargaining agreements while managing to high performance.
  • Experience leading teams while building key relationships across multiple levels of the organization and with multiple disciplines (internal customers, labor relations, union leadership members).
  • Inspire and motivate an operational team of skilled technical employees.

  • Initiative: Anticipates, recognizes and proactively addresses potential technical, operational, and administrative issues with National Grid's fleet.
  • Develop self while mentoring and developing others. Engage in company and community programs to assist in developing fleet role resource pools.

Salary

$110-000 - $129,000 a year

This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills.
