Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Performance Improvement and Management Services is seeking candidates for an Information Technology Specialist 2 position in the Office of Information Technology Services (ITS). This Office provides programming support for NYSED's enterprise applications and developing Information Technology (IT) solutions to support the business needs of NYSED. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:• Assist in the activities of the Development Operations Unit in order to support and streamline the system development functions of the department;• Collaborate with ITS staff to assist and implement industry-proven practices surrounding development operations within the agencies CI/CD processes;• Assist in the improvement and implementation of a continuously integrated and containerized environment for applications in-house and within the departments cloud infrastructure;• Collaborate with ITS staff to develop “infrastructure as code” scripts for the department;• Assist with the coordination of new department applications going from the early stages development to being deployed into a production environment;• Assist in developing within a Linux environment using tools such as git and python; and• Assist JAVA applications with development and debugging issues within the department.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a contingent permanent, competitive appointment or a contingent permanent, non-competitive appointment. For 55b/c appointment, candidates must possess the minimum qualifications, a current 55b/c eligibility letter and is subject to verification of applicant eligibility. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Verification of degree, coursework, and/or experience will be required at the time of interview for all candidates. This position allows for the opportunity to telecommute up to 50% each bi-weekly pay period and is granted at the discretion of the supervisor and the appointing office.
