University at Albany Full-Time Lecturer in Film Studies in Albany, New York

The Department of Art and Art History at the University at Albany, State University of New York, invites applications for the position of Full-Time Lecturer in Film Studies, a non-tenure-track position with the strong possibility of renewal term appointments. We seek an individual with experience in film history, theory, and/or experimental practice to teach courses in the undergraduate program, including the introduction to film studies and electives both general and in the applicant's area of specialty. Candidates should have strong command of film theory; global/cross-cultural intersections; interdisciplinary approaches; and new media. The successful candidate will direct the Film Studies minor and is expected to contribute to the academic life of the Department through advising and participation in departmental activities (e.g., commencement and open houses).

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Masters degree in Film/Moving Image Studies or related field from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization by 9/1/2024. Candidates who will not hold the degree by this date will not be considered.

  • Experience in film history, theory, experimental practice; global/cross-cultural intersections, interdisciplinary approaches, and/or new media. Experience in all areas preferred.

  • Teaching experience at the undergraduate level.

  • Strong administrative skills.

  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community.

  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to their role.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active research and/or creative profile.

  • Either an MFA or PhD in Film/Moving Image Studies.
