Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have:• Either one year of service as a Facility Operations Assistant 1 or Motor Vehicle Operator; OR• Two years of full-time, verifiable experience in custodial, grounds, or maintenance operation or assisting in a journey-level trade.

Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s office of Facilities and Business Services is seeking to fill a Facility Operations Assistant 2 position. The incumbent of this position will provide general maintenance and repair service to a variety of facilities. Duties may include assistance with plumbing, Electrical, Carpentry, Painting, Grounds keeping, and basic building and equipment maintenance. The primary focus will be assisting the Electricians in day-to-day duties. Major responsibilities of this position will include, but are not limited to, the following:• Providing semi-skilled assistance to Trade Shops in the accomplishment of assigned tasks;• Respond to all types of electrical emergencies that may occur;• Clean work areas and equipment;• Be willing to learn and read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics;• Assist in measuring, cutting, bending conduit, and pulling wire;• Using hand tools;• Take initiative and work independently to replace fuses, ballasts, light bulbs, etc. and perform minor repairs;• Assist Electricians to trace out electrical wiring problems, short circuits in wiring and wiring failures using wiring test meter;• Attention to detail;• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team; and • Manage SED's lamp, ballast and battery recycling program.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Candidates are required to possess a valid New York State Driver’s License at the time of hire. Continued employment as a Facility Operations Assistant 2, is dependent upon maintaining a valid New York State Driver’s License. Failure to maintain a valid New York State Driver’s License will result in removal from employment. The work schedule for this position includes hours of Monday through Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm. The incumbent of this position must be able to work overtime during events both scheduled and unscheduled, particularly weather-related events that require laborer personnel to remediate.This position leads to a maximum salary of $50,884 based on annual performance advances.
