Capital Region BOCES Behavior Specialist in Albany, New York

LOCATION: Special Education – Maywood Academy

BASIC FUNCTION: The Behavior Specialist (BOCES) will be responsible for working collaboratively with staff and administrators on implementing behavior support practices; including but not limited to behavior observation/monitoring, behavior consultations and behavior interventions. Serves as primary contact to staff for behavior related reporting, data collection and training and assessment tracking. Works with the Student Placement Administrator and the Director of Special Education on the development of behavioral systems within the Special Education Division, including the development and implementation of a Functional Behavior Analysis/Behavior Intervention Plan (FBA/BIP) Quality Assurance Process, website for staff and families on behavioral resources and targeted professional development and consultation on classroom management plans. Does other related work, as required. Works under general supervision of the Director of Special Education.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plans, develops and produces a wide range of visual stories and photography for both internal and external audiences, including but not limited to web content, digital and print media, and social media strategy.

  • Works with appropriate school district and/or BOCES staff to ensure photography is consistent with subsequent communications strategies and plans.

  • Works closely with school district and/or BOCES administrators and staff to assess photography needs, opportunities and strategies.

  • Attends meetings and maintains records of information released.

  • Establishes and maintains project production schedules.

  • Collects and confirms data from within and outside the school district and/or BOCES by staging photography shoots, attending events, visiting facilities and contributing to subsequent communications materials.

  • Maintains familiarity with school district budgets, student testing and achievement data and/or other complex information related to school programs, policies and operations.

  • Good knowledge of the operation and uses of a variety of digital photography equipment.

  • Good knowledge of the various creative techniques to create dynamic and impactful photos.

  • Good knowledge of the production and editing of high quality photographic content.

  • Good knowledge of the methods and techniques of design and development of multi-image sound/slide programs.

  • Good knowledge of English usage, spelling, punctuation and grammar.

  • Good knowledge of social media platforms and optimization.

  • Ability to conceptualize and create visual media projects and coordinate project to completion.

  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects to completion.

  • Ability to write in a clear, concise and creative manner.

  • Ability to organize tasks and set priorities.

  • Ability to understand school organization and management.

  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally, digitally and in writing.

  • Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

Job Qualifications

CERTIFIED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid New York State certification as a School Psychologist or Social Worker or Special Education/Students with Disabilities.

  • Experience working with children/adolescents with a variety of psychiatric and/or behavioral disorders.

  • Experience developing Functional Behavioral Assessments, Behavior Improvement Plans and positive behavioral supports.

  • Experience on working collaborative with staff and administrators on interventions to support student behavior.

  • Experience training staff on behavior data collection and analysis.

  • Administrative certification helpful but not required.

    CIVIL SERVICE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Possession of a Master’s degree in Psychology, Special Education, Behavioral Sciences or Behavior Analysis and three (3) years of experience working with children/adolescents with a variety of psychiatric and/or behavioral disorders including developing functional behavioral assessments, behavior improvement plans and positive behavioral supports, including or supplemented by one (1) year of experience in training on behavior data collection and analysis.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: At time of application, must hold certification as a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). Must be maintained throughout employment.

    The selected applicant will be subject to a fingerprint supported criminal history background check in accordance with SAVE Legislation effective July 1, 2001.

    Vacancies are filled by certified list provided by Albany County Civil Service. Should no certified list be available, candidates appointed to this position will be serving in a provisional appointment in accordance with New York State Civil Service Law. The candidate must successfully complete a competitive examination and be eligible for appointment in accordance with Civil Service Law and the Civil Service Rules for Albany County to obtain a permanent appointment.
