New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA) is a driving force in realizing this agenda.   • Attract the private sector capital investment needed to expand New York’s clean energy economy.

  • Overcome barriers to using clean energy at a large-scale in New York.

  • Enable New York’s communities and residents to benefit equitably from energy efficiency and renewable energy.

Job Overview

NYSERDA’s Office of the President & CEO leads and supports the organization’s entire Executive Team in advancing the full spectrum of NYSERDA’s activities. Reporting to the Director of Strategy, and working with others in the President’s Office, the wider Executive team and teams across NYSERDA, the successful candidate will contribute to a wide range of strategic and other initiatives undertaken in the Office of the President & CEO. This is an exciting and unique opportunity aimed at candidates that demonstrate skills and potential to grow.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead the annual production process of NYSERDA’s Strategic Outlook publication https://www.nyserda.ny.gov/About/Publications/Program-Planning-Status-Reports/Strategic-Outlook .

  • Contribute to the development of center of excellence initiatives within NYSERDA, such as development of a training curriculum and best practice standards for new policy and analysis centers of excellence.

  • Monitor and help NYSERDA leadership stay abreast of strategic trends in the energy and climate space, including with respect to federal and state government activities.

  • Carry out reviews (broadly or in specific areas; regular, ongoing or one-off) of the scope of NYSERDA’s strategies, programs and/or other initiatives in comparison with the State’s overall goals in order to identify gaps in, or opportunities for reprioritization/ reform of NYSERDA’s activities.

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of strategic policies and programs or other special projects and initiatives at NYSERDA, including in the form of project management, policy options assessment and underpinning analysis.

  • Perform other responsibilities as needed, including supporting the work of the Chief of Staff and other support to be provided to the President & CEO and wider Executive team.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

  • For NYSERDA employees: NYSERDA employees at all grades are eligible to apply. Candidates already working as one of the three job titles advertised here would be accepted at their current grade, title and pay level.

  • For all candidates: For a candidate who does not currently work at NYSERDA as one of the three job titles advertised here, the following criteria will apply to determine eligibility to apply as well as, with regard to the successful candidate, the offered job title and grade:

  • Assistant Project Manager (salary: $68,660-$93,946):

  • Minimum: Associate’s Degree and 3 years of experience

  • Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years of experience

  • Strong evidence/ demonstrated past experience of most of the skills listed above, including in any case the skill of being a quick learner, but limited evidence/ demonstrated past experience of one or more of the other skills listed above

  • Project Manager (salary:$76,051-$127,474):

  • Minimum: Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of experience

  • Preferred: Master’s Degree and 4 years of experience

  • Strong evidence/ demonstrated past experience of all of the skills listed above

  • Senior Project Manager (salary: $111,925-$141,439):

  • Minimum: Bachelor’s degree and 7 years of experience

  • Preferred: Master’s Degree and 6 years of experience

  • Strong evidence/ demonstrated past experience of all of the skills listed above, including at an exceptional level with regard to at least the following skills:

  • Critical, innovative and strategic thinking and decision-making skills;

  • Self-starter who acts independently and proactively, with the ability to work under pressure;

  • Verbal communication skills, the ability to make an impact and present effectively to a range of audiences;

  • Written communication and drafting skills.

  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)

  • Ability to demonstrate respect, equity and inclusive behavior and practices of a diverse workforce and community.

Preferences

  • Energy policymaking experience

  • Broad technical expertise in quantitative analysis of energy issues

  • Knowledge of deployment- and innovation-oriented activities within the clean energy field
