The Department of Communication at the University at Albany seeks an Administrative Manager. The main objective of this position is to provide all necessary administrative support and services to assist the Chair and the department's undergraduate (BA in Communication and Journalism) and graduate (MA, CGS, and Ph.D.) programs. In this role, the Administrative Manager will support the ongoing success and expansion of the department.

The Administrative Manager carries out administrative activities of the Department to facilitate relationships between the Chair and the faculty, between staff and students, between the Department and University offices, and between the Department and agencies outside the University.

  • Provide personnel management for department faculty, staff, and students.

  • Manage department academic affairs.

  • Manage department budgets and accounts.

  • Manage department facilities.

  • Facilitate communications within and outside the department.

    Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization.

  • At least two years of professional experience in an administrative capacity.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

  • Evidence of finance and budget management experience

  • Evidence of strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.

  • Evidence of strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and in a team.

  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community

  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to their role

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree

  • Experience working with students and faculty in a higher education setting

  • Experience with university software, such as Slate, PeopleSoft, and Business Intelligence, and social media.

Professional Rank and Salary Grade: Senior Staff Assistant, SL-3, $57,000
