About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [FEU].

The Systems Technical Specialist will provide technical support at all levels to the C&DS Systems team regarding application operation, integration, stability and continuous improvement across the suite of systems that support the success of the PLMP (Project Lifecycle Management Process). They will support C&DS by establishing and maintaining reliable, consistent business processes housed within a complex technical infrastructure that provides services such as forecasting & planning, engineering design, scoping & estimating, project scheduling.

This position will report to the Manager of Process Control and Continuous Improvement.

Responsibilities include:

  • Demonstrate a solid commitment to FirstEnergy core values.

  • Work closely with the C&DS Systems organization, IT, Process Control & Continuous Improvement and business owners / SMEs within C&DS and Transmission on the identification and troubleshooting of system issues, documentation of functional specifications, developing and executing test plans, developing communications and training materials,

  • Assist in analyzing business processes and developing technical solutions for improvement while supporting ongoing systems and processes improvements.

  • Responsibilities include troubleshooting, data analysis, requirement definition, evaluation, testing, implementation, and change leadership. The job provides the opportunity for frequent interaction with IT partners, internal business clients and executive leadership, all of which necessitate effective communication skills.

  • Assessing business practices for improvement opportunities; being a champion of change and innovation that drives improvement and eliminates non-value-added activity. Helps to develop technical solutions to complex business problems.

  • Engage in small, medium and large-scale initiatives to improve systems function and use.

  • Supporting Product Ownership of C&DS Systems, which includes:

  • Collaborating with IT development team

  • Having technical product knowledge, or specific operations expertise

  • Clearly articulating customers' needs and the associated features to meet those needs

  • Serving as an advocate of C&DS to the IT development team

  • Offering ideas and suggestions to improve complex work processes and/or projects.

  • Becoming skilled in multiple software platforms commonly used within the business.

  • Maintaining a safe workplace for coworkers and the community based upon knowledge of potential hazards and industry regulations/requirements.

  • Aid during emergencies and storm-related activities which may include travel to various FirstEnergy locations.

  • Travel will be required within and external to the FirstEnergy service territory.

Qualifications include:

  • Two or four-year degree in a related discipline is required.

  • Minimum of 2 years relevant experience is required.

  • In lieu of a degree, 4 years of relevant experience will be considered.

  • Relevant experience includes experience in system administration, IT development, IT support or another technical group supporting applications. Hands-on experience with system implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance is preferred. .

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, Visio, PowerPoint and Word,

  • Knowledge of the C&DS suite of applications (i.e., OPPM, Sage, P6 Scheduling, Unifier, Hexagon EcoSys, etc.), is a plus.

  • Must demonstrate the ability to conduct research & analyze data.

  • Mature interpersonal skills to work with all employees and customers.

  • Ability to create and present formal and informal presentations within workgroup.

  • Ability to review and analyze user requirements to develop detailed functional specifications.

  • Project management experience is a plus.

  • Experience in process/project development, planning/analysis, and/or performance reporting is a plus.

  • The ideal candidate is skilled in C&DS business process, has direct systems experience and can function as part of a technical business team. They are committed to first-class customer service.
