GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Serves as a Law Enforcement Commissioned Peace Officer enforcing State of Ohio laws (Ohio Revised Code,) and Park District rules and regulations. Protects life, property, and maintains good order within the parks. Patrols assigned areas for the purpose of assisting park patrons to have a safe and enjoyable park experience. Provides information, education, and assistance to park visitors to achieve safety, security and resource protection. Performs duties with tact, diplomacy, discretion, respect, and impartiality. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Enforces violations of park rules and other laws. Provides information, education, and assistance to park visitors in a friendly and respectful manner. Advises park visitors of park district rules and regulations for the purpose of education, prevention and deterrence. 2. Patrols assigned park properties by motor vehicle, on foot, on bicycle and all-terrain vehicle to provide a deterrent to potential violators. 3. Enforces Ohio laws and Park District rules and regulations with tact, diplomacy, discretion, respect, impartiality, and without discrimination. May enforce applicable municipal ordinances when directed by supervision. 4. Administers special use, lodge and shelter permits. Admits groups to lodges and shelters and monitors their use. Secures the facility upon departure of the group. 5. Performs certain maintenance duties in emergencies or due to safety hazards. 6. Participates in the safety, risk management, and resource protection programs of the Park District. Monitors environmental and other natural conditions such as flooding or wind storms, to adequately warn park patrons of potential threats to safety. Takes appropriate action after consultation with supervision to close areas or facilities as appropriate for the conditions. 7. Monitors and assists in special events and activities scheduled in parks. 8. Takes charge in case of accidents or other emergencies. Assists sick or injured visitors and administers first aid within the limits of training. Conducts necessary investigations. 9. Monitors conditions within and adjacent to park property to protect visitors and resources from fire and hazardous materials incidents. Uses fire extinguishing equipment when needed. Assists in management and/or containment of hazardous materials incidents within the limits of training and as directed by supervision. 10. Reports incidents of serious crimes and accidents to the local police and/or fire department/EMS as necessary. 11. Investigates and reports on suspicious activities. Apprehends, cites, or arrests violators when appropriate. Appears in court as a witness when required. 12. Makes written reports of patrol activities and incidents. 13. Performs related duties as assigned by Ranger Supervision, or Park Manager when appropriate. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES continued QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Education: Graduation from High School or GED required. Associates degree or higher preferred. 2. Experience: One or more year experience in parks, natural resources or comparable law enforcement preferred, but not required. 3. Knowledge and abilities: A. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. B. Ability to make timely and effective decisions. C. Ability to carry and use effectively, fire extinguishing tools (e.g. fire extinguisher and equipment.) D. Ability to move barricading to locations where needed, or to move emergency supplies, equipment or materials to locations within the parks. E. Maintains knowledge of currently applicable procedures, policies, and court rulings regarding laws of arrest, search and seizure. F. Maintains skill level with defensive equipment to meet State of Ohio re-qualification requirements. G.
