Manages a team of transportation professionals that oversees and strives to maximize the efficiency (cost and performance) of Outbound Prime Product Distribution Transportation Network.

Responsibilities

• Organizing, operationalizing and monitoring Ground (First Mile, Last Mile) and Ocean (International Exports) transportation network for distribution of Caterpillar’s prime products from factory to global dealer network (domestic dealers & International Dealers).

o Manage domestic last mile program (i.e. ship machines from factory to Japan domestic dealers)

o Manage international export trade lane management (i.e. ship machines from factory to international dealers in Australia, Africa Middle East, NA last mile, EU last mile)

• Perform shipment pre-planning (forecasting 30-60-90 days by trade lane, planning w, ocean carrier booking) for prime product distribution.

• Perform short term and long-term transportation rough cut capacity planning using factory S&OP and share with Product Groups, Ocean carriers and take decisions to resolve capacity gaps.

• Manage first mile trucking capacity planning, performance (on time pick up, first mile trucking cost) and execute to transport prime products from factory shipping floor to Port of Load.

• Coordinate with Port of Load Operations supplier, Dealer, factory to fix any transport related damages before export from Japan.

• Optimizing shipments and communications between dealers, manufacturing facilities, transport suppliers, Freight Forwarder and business partners (i.e. Destination Transportation, Product Group, Supply Chain, Shipping Floor team members).

• Provide prime product transportation support to dealers by being the primary Dealer Interface for transport related issues.

o Manage and meet DOCS case performance (accept dealer transport queries, respond & resolve to dealer queries within 24 to 48 hours)

• Managing relationships and processes with key ocean carriers (RORO, Container, Break Bulk) to ensure satisfactory levels of service.

• Overseeing carrier selection and renewals and participating in contract negotiations. Seeking new carriers and transportation routes.

• Develop prime product distribution solutions from Factory to Port of Discharge for New Product Introduction, New Source Introduction programs launched at factory.

• Work with the team to identify continuous improvement projects to achieve yearly cost savings goals.

• Prepare and attend monthly outbound transport operations governance meetings.

• Lead the team to improve shipment visibility performance (i.e. EDI ocean booking, and milestone visibility)

• Provide leadership to implement Technology Transformation projects namely, Blue Yonder Transportation Management System Ground, Blue Yonder Transportation Management System Ocean, Shipment Pre-planning etc. to develop Japan future outbound distribution network.

• Coach, Develop the team

• Work with peers in other Asian countries, EU and NA region in a collaborative manner to improve cost and performance of outbound prime product distribution network.

• Own and lead the team to meet compliance requirements for local (road permission) & International (Cogan Grass, Stink Bug, Insurance Notification, Loss Prevention Survey) Distribution.

• Work with Dealers, Transport Suppliers (first mile trucking, Freight Forwarding, Ocean Carriers) and build relationship & trust to work effectively to meet Business Goals.

• Identify and work on projects to increase the prime product distribution velocity to reduce Caterpillar’s finished good’s inventory in the outbound distribution network.

• Lead the team and work to achieve outbound performance metrics (Full on Time, Ocean Transit Time, Port Dwell, Cost Savings etc.)

• Work with Trade Lane Management leadership to set yearly SMART Goals, manage team’s performance to meet SMART Goals for the team members.

• Own and lead people through career planning, succession planning and performance management.

• Lead and submit inputs yearly for Ocean Container bid, and Ocean RORO bid for all trade lanes from Japan.
