Junior Distribution Designer/Engineer (Hybrid)
Roles and Responsibilities
POWER Engineers is seeking a talented Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineer or Technologist to join our Power Distribution design team. Under the guidance of multiple experienced Engineers and Technologists, the successful candidate will participate in all utility distribution design aspects. The position will involve developing new designs by applying knowledge of electric utility systems and their operation, applying engineering calculations to project challenges to produce skilled plans, designing packages for construction, and performing a quality review of project deliverables. The successful candidate will have opportunities to work with teams across Canada and the USA. Some travel to Canada and the USA may be required for training or project-specific site visits.
Required Education/Experience
Technical college diploma (Civil/Electrical/Mechanical) or a university degree in Civil/Electrical/Mechanical Engineering
Ability to work in design teams is self-motivated to perform assigned tasks and willing to take the initiative to learn the position
Experience using the Microsoft Office software suite
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Must have a strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel
Must be able to pass a client's background check along with client drug and alcohol screening processes as required
Must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
Desired Education/Experience
Attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills will be critical for the successful completion of tasks
Ability to manage multiple tasks and work effectively with different personalities
Exposure to utility standards, CSA, and an understanding of powerline construction techniques
Strong computer design skills, the ability to learn new software packages efficiently, and retain and apply on-the-job training
Prior Distribution system industry experience is preferred but not required
Self-motivated to perform assigned tasks
