Savannah River Mission Completion Civil Structural Designer I, II, or III in Aiken, South Carolina
Overview
Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) is seeking a Civil Structural Designer I, II, or III to be based in our Aiken, SC location on the Savannah River Site (SRS).

The Civil Structural Designer I, II, or III supplementsthe “system” design drawings, calculations and specifications developed by the engineering group through the preparation of physical drawings. Incorporates knowledge of materials, construction methods, applicable Codes and Standards and 2D and 3D Microstation CADD and other applicable computer applications.
Responsibilities
Prepares basic design, including concept sketches and layouts.
Prepares, computer aided design (CAD) drafting drawings for installation, fabrication, and testing.
Works with designers in other disciplines to coordinate designs.
Under direct supervision reviews design drawings for discrepancies and for compatibility to engineered equipment and to provide comments and recommendations.
Under direct supervision performs field inspections to locate existing systems and equipment, verify as-built conditions, and determines best approach for modifications.
Participates in resolving field problems identified on Non-conformance Reports, Field Problem Memos, and Design Change Requests by modifying existing design within procedural guidelines and design requirements.

Additional responsibilities as a Designer II:
Prepares design drawings including concept sketches and layouts based on organization standards.
Prepares and issues computer aided design (CAD) drafting drawings for installation, fabrication, and testing.
Performs field walk downs to locate existing systems and equipment, verify as-built conditions, and determine best approach for modifications.
Reviews and checks design drawings for discrepancies and for compatibility with engineered equipment and to provide higher level designers with comments.
Participates in resolving field problems identified on Non-conformance Reports, Requests for Engineering Assistance (REAs), and Design Change Requests by modifying existing design within procedural guidelines and design requirements.
May prepare construction installation specifications and details.
Additional responsibilities as a Designer III:
Prepares design drawings including concept sketches and layouts based on organization standards using thorough knowledge of discipline (Ex: Electrical, Structural or Plant design).
Prepares designs drawings for new systems, modifications, rework, and alterations to equipment and components based on upper tier “system level” drawings (e.g. P&IDs, General Arrangements, and Electrical Schematics/Cable Block Diagrams),
Prepares, checks, and issues computer aided design (CAD) drafting drawings for installation, fabrication, and testing.
Performs independent technical review of design output documents to ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards, site requirements, and design input criteria.
Provides input to, and prepares design standards in accordance with site criteria.
Reviews and checks design drawings for discrepancies and for compatibility with engineered equipment and to provide comments and recommendations.
Prepares construction installation specifications and details.
Prepares specifications for material or services, reviews bid proposals, and provides bid analysis.
Provides dispositions to Non-conformance Reports by determining a solution to the condition which will satisfy design criteria. Performs walk downs of facilities, systems, or components as required for proper evaluation of conditions.
May resolve existing design discrepancies with the most cost-effective approach to meet design criteria.
May take lead role over other design team members for a task, as assigned.
Qualifications
High School Diploma/GED and relevant work experience in computer aided design as defined in the job description.
Preferred Qualifications
Civil or Structural design experience
Good communication skills.
Design and drafting techniques, engineering drawings, industry and regulatory requirements, design criteria, and applicable codes.
Continued training in new technology and industry standards.

Requires the thorough knowledge of advanced engineering principles and practices to develop appropriate design outputs.
An in-depth knowledge of the conventional technology in the specialized field, computer applications, Industry Codes and Standards, design control, and Department of Energy requirements is required. Good organizational and communication skills are necessary.
Requires the ability to use computers to prepare computer aided design drawings.
Continued training is required for new technology developments in related fields.
Knowledge of project cost/schedule controls is required.
