  • Pratt & Whitney, a business unit of RTX Corporation, is a global company that designs, manufactures and services the world’s most advanced aircraft engines and auxiliary power systems for commercial, military and business aircraft.

  • Pratt & Whitney Engineering is establishing a European Technology and Innovation Center (ETIC) in the Netherlands. You have the unique opportunity to be a part of this new venture, spearheading the establishment of Pratt & Whitney within Europe’s aviation technology and innovation ecosystem.

  • The Pratt & Whitney office is located in Houten, near the historic city of Utrecht, 30 minutes from Amsterdam and within the Dutch Randstad, a region that boasts nearly half the Dutch population.

  • The Advanced Concepts group within the ETIC is responsible for evaluating and exploring new engine concepts, architectures and technologies. In this group you will discover and develop new concepts for commercial engines to enable sustainable and zero-carbon flight, including hybrid electric and liquid hydrogen propulsion. This position provides the opportunity to make novel discoveries to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

Job Description:

  • This is a technical management position. You will build and lead a team of engineers who will originate and evaluate propulsion concepts where thermodynamic cycles work in concert with hybrid electric propulsion, alternative fuels, and advanced aircraft elements, to meet key requirements.

  • Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate with various P&W engineering disciplines in Europe and the United States, fellow RTX-business Collins Aerospace, the RTX Technology Research Center and partner companies to lead the origination and assessment of viability of propulsion concepts and components for those concepts,

  • Drive a culture of mutual respect, trust and empowerment in the organization.

  • Lead a diverse team of experts in aerodynamics, thermodynamics, design and durability in studies and assessments,

  • Lead and manage projects together with the leadership of Pratt & Whitney’s Advanced Concepts Group in East Hartford, United States,

  • Supervise and mentor team members to maximize their potential and grow their careers,

  • Summarize design and analysis results for P&W and RTX leadership and perform external customer briefings.

  • Participate in proposal writing, pre-marketing of proposal ideas and contract management and execution.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering,

  • 10+ years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with 7+ years of relevant experience,

  • Familiarity with aircraft propulsion and gas turbines,

  • Experience in the aviation, turbomachinery and/or gas turbine industries,

  • Technical and project management experience,

  • Proposal writing experience,

  • Ability to craft clear communication and develop meaningful relationships,

  • Experience supervising, mentoring, empowering, and motivating engineers to achieve optimal job performance, and progress along pathways of desired career growth,

  • Excellent judgment and professional maturity,

  • The ability to build positive relationships.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Experience in thermodynamic cycle analysis,

  • Experience in internal flows and aerodynamics,

  • Experience with Agile project management methodologies.
