Based out of the Electrical Division Edmonton (EDE) location, the Electrical Designer will report to the Engineering Supervisor of the Electrical Engineering department. The Electrical Designer will be responsible for the design of LV/MV Switchgear & MCC’s.

Essential Responsibilities

• Review all applicable documentation and company procedural manuals to determine critical attributes of design.

• Retrieve and review all customer specification documents, notes, sales quotes, vendor quotes, drawings and diagrams provided for purposes of creating electrical designs for customer.

• Confer with engineers and design staff to interpret design concepts, and determine design modifications needed.

• Utilizes client specifications, technical manuals and directives to ensure compliance with codes and company policies. Becomes familiar with various standards and codes such as CEC, CSA, IEEE, ANSI etc.

• Apply company products, standards, procedures and design guides to customer requirements.

• Revise drawings and designs based on change orders and customer requests.

• Provide clarification to electricians and other individuals utilizing designs to complete electrical installations on customer projects.

• Meet with customers to accurately interpret design specifications.

• Draft design drawings, analyze data to determine changes/modifications needed, and verify the accuracy and completeness of drawings.

• Coordinate and communicate with staff members in engineering, production, design, and management, to ensure designs meet customer expectations.

• Key in specified information to produce graphic representation of design for review and approval by engineering and design staff.

• Work with manufacturing staff to interpret designs, answer questions and make changes as needed.

• Other duties as required.

Job Requirements - Core Competencies

• Demonstrates advanced drafting/CAD skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering preferred, or equivalent experience in electrical installation and design.

• Three (3) years’ experience using Computer Aided Design software.

• Experience in electrical installations and electrical design.

Working Conditions

• Temperature controlled working environment.

• Must wear personnel protective equipment at all times (i.e., hard hats, safety glasses, safety harnesses as required) and respirators when required.

• Must be able to work from all types of ladders (step ladders, "A" frame ladders, and all-size extension ladders).

• Job requires working in a office/shop setting.

• Working in front of a computer for the majority of the shift.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to maintain body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending or descending stairs.

  • Bending the body at the waist, the legs at the knees, and extending arms and hands in any direction in a repetitive manner continuously.

  • Continuous standing, walking 50-300 foot distances for long periods of time with only occasional sitting.

  • Using upper extremities to apply or exert a force frequently throughout the shift.

  • Lifting metal sheets up to 50lbs.

  • Maneuvering metal sheets up to 200lbs.

  • Typing, punching or applying pressure to an object with fingers and palms.

  • Perceiving size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with the fingertips.

  • Working with and around loud and fast moving machinery for the majority of the shift.
