Powell Industries, Inc. Journeyman Welder - Structural - Night Shift in Acheson, Alberta

Based out of the Electrical Division Edmonton (EDE) location, the Journeyperson Welder (Structural Steel) will report to the Manufacturing Supervisor of the Fabrication department. The Journeyperson Welder will use a variety of welding processes and tools to produce precision parts and to construct Powell Canada products.
The positions that we are looking to fill are for the night shift (Monday - Thursday, 3:30pm - 2:00am). The successful candidate will be required to train at minimum 1 month on the day shift.
Essential Responsibilities:
Fit-up Weldment per required mechanical engineered drawing and product specifications.
Setup CC and CV welding machines to achieve desired quality results.
Work with small hand tools, clamps and grinders to fit-up and weld structural steel and sheet metal products.
Perform light maintenance on welding equipment such as replacing contact tips and nozzles, replacing liners and entire weld gun assemblies, replacing drive rolls on wire feeders and safely exchanging shielding gas bottles.
Perform advanced complex welds.
Operate plasma cutters and cut materials using power tools or by hand.
Operate automatic band saw and Mag drill.
Participate in Powell's ongoing Safety Training.
Assist Lead Persons with training and mentoring other employees.
Promote a safety culture as well as attend all safety meetings.
Ensure quality by following standard work instructions and identify any potential risks to product quality.
Ensure work areas remain clean and well organized.

Job Requirements – Core Competencies:
Comprehension and understanding of shop drawings.
Ability to read or learn to understand various welding symbols.
Changes priorities to meet changing demands; adjusts quickly to new responsibilities and tasks.

Ability to read a tape measure (including conversions from fraction to decimal and conversely from decimal to fraction and metric to imperial).
Conscientious, thorough, accurate, and reliable when performing and completing job tasks.

Must have a basic command of the English language, both written and verbal.
Qualifications:
Valid Provincial or Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyperson Welder or Journeyperson Fitter certification.
Minimum 2 years of experience, working as Journeyperson in related structural steel fabrication.
MIG experience is considered an asset.
CWB Certification FCAW S-classification all position is required.
CSTS 2020 Fundamentals as well as 8 additional modules will be required before hire date.
Overhead crane ticket is considered an asset (10-80 ton).
Forklift operation ticket is considered an asset (3000#-20000#).
Safety certifications are an asset for the position.
Due to the safety sensitive nature of this position successful candidates will undergo pre-employment drug and alcohol testing upon hire.
Working Conditions
Safety sensitive position in a temperature controlled manufacturing or industrial environment with occasional outside activities.
Required to wear personnel protective equipment at all times (i.e., hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety harnesses as required) and respirators when required.
Must be able to work from all type of ladders (step ladders, "A" frame ladders and all size extension ladders) and scaffolding.
Working at heights usually no higher than 30 feet in the air on or using proper lift equipment.
Physical Requirements
Able to maintain body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending or descending stairs.
Bending the body at the waist, the legs at the knees, and extending arms and hands in any direction in a repetitive manner continuously.
Continuous standing, walking 50-300 foot distances for long periods of time with only occasional sitting.
Must be able to climb stairs frequently throughout the shift.
Able to frequently look over shoulders, work with both arms above shoulders and use both arms at full length frequently.
Using upper extremities to apply or exert a force continuously up to 50lbs.
Ability to use hand tools such as tin snips, hammer, and power tools (some vibrating), for long periods of time with frequent repetition.
