New York University Research Assistant in the Division of Science [Psychology] - Dr. Anne Maass in Abu Dhabi, United States

Dr. Anne Maass (Psychology Program, Science Division) is hiring a research assistant to work on a project focusing on the link between language and social cognition. This includes, in particular, a series of studies on how a speaker’s vocal characteristics (indicative, for instance, of their gender or gender-conformity) affect the interpretation of an utterance. Focusing on two language communities (English and Turkish), we will examine how social information conveyed by voice influences the processing of linguistic content, and how and when the social information revealed by voice and the content of what is being said are integrated into a coherent impression. These questions are investigated both with socio-cognitive and neuro-science methods (in particular EEG). The Research Assistant will join Dr. Anne Maass’ Lab at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) and will be co-supervised by Dr. Jen Lewendon, a Post-Doctoral Fellow at NYUAD with specific expertise in EEG methodology.

The Research Assistant is expected to start working on the project at the beginning of the academic year 2024/25. The position is for one year.

Qualifications

Candidates must hold a Bachelor Degree in Psychology and must be able to demonstrate a strong background in experimental methodologies and an interest in understanding the role of language in social cognition. The ideal candidate will have experience with EEG methodology and knowledge of Turkish.

Applications Instructions

Applicants will need to provide a CV, a cover letter that describes the applicant’s research interests, a degree transcript, and 2 contact references, all in PDF format.
