JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Pennsylvania State University Libraries seeks applications for a tenure line Research and Instruction Librarian position at Penn State Abington. Reporting to the Head Librarian for Penn State Abington, this individual will provide public services that emphasize student success and support an inclusive and welcoming environment. Main Duties and Responsibilities:Research and Instruction• Teach course-integrated instruction sessions in a variety of undergraduate courses• Partner with campus faculty to help students develop core information literacy skills through instructional activities• Collaborate with colleagues at Penn State Abington and across the University Libraries in planning, delivering, and evaluating information literacy instruction and reference servicesCollections• Coordinate collection development activities at Penn State Abington, including selection of monographs, serials, emerging technologies, and other equipment and materials that will support student success • Analyze collections and circulation data and monitor trends in the campus curriculum to identify research materials and emerging technologies suitable for acquisition• Select materials for acquisition and deselection in assigned subject areas; these subject areas will be assigned based on library needs and individual interests/areas of expertise• Supervise deselection projects to remove outdated and irrelevant materials from the collection Outreach• Participate in campus events that seek to engage and support the diverse student body of Penn State Abington• Work with colleagues across Penn State Abington and the University Libraries to identify and maintain partnerships that involve library spaces, services, and/or collections Research and Service• Serve on professional committees at the local, state, regional, national and/or international level• As a faculty member, participate in shared governance within Penn State Abington, the University Libraries, and the University as a whole• Participate in research and creative activities that advance the profession of librarianship, including presenting and publishing• Please visit https://libraries.psu.edu/policies/ul-acg07 to learn more about the University Libraries Promotion and Tenure GuidelinesQualifications:Required• Master’s degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association (or equivalent)• Experience related to information literacy instruction, reference, and research support• Experience with collection development• Experience with creating a welcoming environment for people from diverse backgrounds• Demonstrated commitment to student-centered teaching• Commitment to engaging in professional development, including serving on committees and presenting and publishing research• Ability to work independently and collaborativelyPreferred• Experience in an academic library• Experience leading a deselection initiative• Familiarity with library assessment practices, including evaluating collection useEnvironment:The Penn State University Libraries are a strategic asset to Penn State, advancing intellectual discovery, information literacy, and lifelong learning, all in support of the University's strategic goals of teaching, research, and service.
