Employees of the Central MA Office handle legal matters from across the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) in each of the Office’s core areas of responsibility, including, among many others: consumer protection, worker protection, civil rights, fair competition, nonprofit oversight, and representation of the Commonwealth and state officials in challenges to their actions. The Central MA Office also provides on-site assistance to residents with labor, civil rights, and consumer issues. The Office serves as a regional hub for the implementation of AGO-wide priorities that involve community outreach, education, and policy initiatives. Primary Duties: The Chief of the Central MA Office will be responsible for managing the Office, including Assistant Attorneys General and support staff, while also handling your own matters. Accordingly, the Chief should expect to lead the Office while also holding the position of Assistant Attorney General in one of our five Bureaus: Public Protection & Advocacy, Health Care & Fair Competition, Energy & Environment, Criminal, and Government. Because Central MA staff also report directly to division managers in Boston, the Chief will coordinate staff supervision with managers of those divisions. In addition, the Central MA Chief will represent the Office of the Attorney General in consumer, professional, and community education; training and outreach programs and events; and be the Office’s liaison with local public officials and community organizations and maintain consistent reporting on CMAS Office activities to the Attorney General and her executive staff. Position Type: Full-Time/Exempt. Our current hybrid model includes some remote workdays for most positions. In addition to supervisory responsibilities, you must be able to handle your own matters within one of the Office’s Bureaus and to professionally and successfully represent the Commonwealth and the Attorney General with private stakeholders, and, as appropriate, in court. The position requires effective communication, interpersonal, and management skills; a significant knowledge of and familiarity with Central Massachusetts; the ability to professionally represent the Attorney General in presentations and meetings involving consumer groups, local officials, and community organizations; the ability to successfully work with the public, the private bar, courts, and other legal and government institutions; a proven record of sound judgment and decision making; and dedication to serving the public interest. Must be a member of the Massachusetts bar or eligible for admission by motion.
